Rubio Says Talks on the War in Ukraine Have Reached a Dead End
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, said that U.S. efforts to mediate in the war in Ukraine have “reached a dead end.”
According to Rubio, Washington does not intend to keep spending energy on negotiations without progress:
We have tried to play the role of mediator, but so far that has not led to a productive outcome for a number of reasons. We are still ready to play that role if it can be effective.
As Rubio said, the United States views the war between Ukraine and Russia as a “tragedy.” Both sides, the secretary of state stressed, are paying a “very high price for it, both economic and, obviously, human.”
