European countries have called for the International Olympic Committee to be stripped of European Union funding over allowing Russians into qualifying for the 2028 Olympics

Nine countries proposed excluding the International Olympic Committee and other sports organizations that allowed Russians and Belarusians into tournaments under their auspices from European funding programs.

The proposal was put forward by Estonia. It was joined by the Netherlands, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Sweden, Romania, Finland, and Denmark.

On July 7, the IOC lifted restrictions on Russian athletes. Athletes will no longer be required to compete under neutral status and may take part not only in individual events but also in team disciplines. Read more about this decision on Meduza’s website.
