Politician Boris Nadezhdin did not rule out that he may leave Russia

“Yes, [that idea] is being discussed. Not so much by me as by my family,” he said on July 14 on the YouTube channel The Breakfast Show.

In a conversation with the outlet Agentstvo, Nadezhdin also explained that he fears a possible arrest.

I have an anxious feeling. Because it is obvious: yesterday they simply wanted to lock me up. Unfortunately, I am not in the kind of health or at the age to maybe even survive 15 days in a stuffy cell. I would simply die there.

Boris Nadezhdin was detained in the afternoon of July 13. A protocol was drawn up against him for displaying “extremist symbols.” The reason for the case was a link on the politician’s social media to a video featuring a photograph of Alexei Navalny. In the evening, Nadezhdin was released from police custody and ordered to appear in court.

The politician linked the increased pressure from the Russian authorities to his nomination for the State Duma elections.
