The FSB’s Second Service, which was behind Navalny’s poisoning and internet shutdowns, tried to build itself an AI assistant for news analysis. Unsuccessfully

Officially, the FSB’s Second Service is responsible for protecting the constitutional order and combating terrorism. In reality, this agency fights internal dissent in Russia: it prepares assassination attempts on opposition figures, restricts internet access, and tracks signs of disagreement in the news. For the latter task, the “deuce” commissioned the development of an internal monitoring system using artificial intelligence a couple of years ago. The developer was the Kazan-based company Mikord, which had built a unified military registration database for the Defense Ministry and was hacked in 2025.
