Data on 47,500 dead servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces, collected by evacuation teams from June through October 2025, has been added to the website of the “I Want to Return” project.

We previously published Russian statistics on losses for the first 8 months of 2025, according to which as of September 1 the Russian Armed Forces had lost 120,000 people killed and missing, while 158,000 had been wounded. Overall, in 2025 the Russian Armed Forces lost 419,000 people killed and wounded.

The published data includes only identified bodies. Remains requiring identification by DNA, which by our estimates account for 65% of all those killed, were not included in the list. Moreover, this is the result of the work of only part of the evacuation teams. And although among the recovered bodies there are undoubtedly those who died earlier but were only found in 2025, this information demonstrates the real scale of Russian losses.

On average, 346 bodies were recovered daily, with a peak of 723 bodies in September. That is roughly one battalion per day. To understand the scale:

• Over 8 years of the Vietnam War, the United States lost 58,000 people killed.

• Over 10 years of the war in Afghanistan, the USSR lost 15,000 people.

The Russian army is losing more than the United States and the USSR combined, in just a few months of war.

Among all the recovered bodies, the largest numbers of dead came from the well-known “meat” units: the 114th, 15th, 5th, and 9th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigades and the 433rd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 27th Motorized Rifle Division. These units are always at the top by the number of missing or dead, whose named lists can be found on the “I Want to Find” project channel under the hashtag #lists\of\the\dead as well as in the database of the “I Want to Return” project.

357 of the dead were 18- to 19-year-olds. They spent their short lives under Putin’s rule and died in a foreign country practically right after school. Overall, the list includes at least 5,000 young men aged 18–25.

The Kremlin continues to create the illusion that Russia is supposedly winning the war. But these are the realities on the ground: after almost five years of war, with 1.4 million Russians killed and wounded, Russia controls less Ukrainian territory than it did in March 2022.
