The Verkhovna Rada appointed Serhii Koretskyi as Ukraine’s new prime minister

289 deputies voted in favor.

Serhii Koretskyi is the head of the energy company Naftogaz. He is 48 years old. He became Naftogaz’s CEO in 2025. Before that, Koretskyi led the company Ukrnafta for three years (after the authorities nationalized it, taking it away from oligarch Ihor Kolomoiskyi). Under Koretskyi, Ukrnafta went from losses to profit and became one of the most successful state-owned companies.

Sources from Ukrainska Pravda reported that Zelensky had been watching Koretskyi’s work and considered him “one of the strongest state managers.”
