A Court in Moscow Rejected Euroclear’s Appeal and Upheld the Decision to Recover 18 Trillion Rubles in the Central Bank’s Lawsuit

The Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal in Moscow rejected a motion by the Belgian depository Euroclear, TASS reports. A Euroclear representative told the agency that the ruling to recover 18.17 trillion rubles in the Central Bank of Russia’s lawsuit remains in force.

In December 2025, the Central Bank filed a complaint in court over the depository’s “illegal actions.” Euroclear holds the bulk of Russian assets that were frozen after the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. In May 2026, the Moscow Arbitration Court fully satisfied that claim.

Euroclear representatives said they would appeal the ruling. The depository also stressed that the frozen assets remain blocked in accordance with international sanctions. Euroclear called the Central Bank’s lawsuit “unfounded.”
