The IOC will not change its position on restoring the rights of the Russian Olympic Committee after EU countries called for funding cuts

The International Olympic Committee will not change its position on the participation of Russian athletes and the restoration of the Russian Olympic Committee because of a letter from European countries about the possible withdrawal of funding from the organization. An IOC spokesperson told Reuters this.

The IOC said that the decision to restore the ROC’s rights is preliminary in nature and does not signal a broader change in its position toward Russia:

The IOC must take into account the complex realities and consequences of the current geopolitical environment and must remain committed to its mission of preserving a values-based and truly global sports platform that inspires hope for the world.

🔵On July 7, the IOC lifted the suspension of the ROC, promising to decide later on the use of symbols by Russian athletes.

🔵On July 14, Estonia, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Sweden, Romania, Finland, and Denmark appealed to the European Commission with a proposal to exclude the IOC and other sports organizations that allow Russia and Belarus to compete in international events from EU funding programs.
