1️⃣Trump announced a full three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine for May 9-11 and a prisoner exchange of 1,000 people each.

"I am pleased to announce that we will have a THREE-DAY CEASEFIRE (May 9, 10, and 11). This is a celebration of Victory Day in Russia, but in Ukraine too, because they were also a major factor in World War II.

The ceasefire includes a halt to all kinetic activity, as well as an exchange of 1,000 prisoners from each country.

This request was made directly by me and I greatly appreciate that President Putin and President Zelensky agreed to it.

I hope this is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly, and difficult war, which we are moving closer to day by day".

2️⃣Zelensky confirmed the prisoner exchange and the ceasefire.

"In recent days there have been many appeals and signals regarding the configuration of tomorrow in Moscow in connection with our Ukrainian long-range sanctions. The principle of mirror symmetry in our actions is well known and has been conveyed to the Russian side.

An additional argument for Ukraine in determining our position is always the resolution of one of the key humanitarian issues, namely the release of prisoners of war.

Today, as part of the negotiation process mediated by the American side, we received Russia's consent to conduct a prisoner exchange in the 1,000 for 1,000 format.

A silence regime is also to be established on May 9, 10, and 11".

3️⃣Ushakov agreed to support the ceasefire dates and prisoner exchange proposed by Trump.

Three points.

1. The ceasefire includes not only May 9, as Putin wanted, but also the 10th and 11th. This is kind of not what Zelensky proposed either (the 6th and 7th). But at the same time it is not a ceasefire "just for the parade" either, Ukraine's 48 hours were taken into account.

2. Putin, with his threats, was NOT ABLE to secure a ceasefire on May 9 unilaterally. That is the main conclusion from this whole story, period. His "I declare, I threaten, I stop" DID NOT WORK. He needed Trump for a ceasefire.

3. The 1000x1000 prisoner exchange is the biggest exchange since Istanbul-2025. This is the main thing.

This is an absolute diplomatic victory for Ukraine. Absolute.

The only question is how much Russia will observe the ceasefire. But during the last 32-hour Easter truce there still was a certain drop in Russian assault activity + there were no airstrikes.

Plus, Trump is acting as the broker-guarantor of compliance with the ceasefire. We all know what kind of sucker Trump is, but still, that is an additional factor.

The Parade Needed Outside Approval

A May 9-11 truce and a 1,000-for-1,000 swap were brokered through Trump.

For May 9, his own orders were no longer enough.
