A German citizen was detained in Pyatigorsk; according to the FSB, she was found with an explosive device.

As TASS reports, citing the FSB Public Relations Center, the backpack of the woman, born in 1969, contained a homemade device with a yield of about 1.5 kg of TNT equivalent and fragmentation elements. It is claimed that an explosion was planned near one of the city’s security-agency facilities.

A citizen of one of the Central Asian republics, born in 1997, was supposed to detonate the bomb remotely, while the woman was supposed to die at the scene.

The FSB claims that the Islamist detained in Pyatigorsk pledged allegiance to the IS group, which is banned in Russia. The security service’s statements also say that the detainees have already “given confessions and explained that they took the weapons from caches set up by Ukraine’s special services.”
