On the morning of May 9, 2026, mobile internet was switched off in central Moscow. The Digital Development Ministry noted that this was necessary "to ensure the security of festive events". That wording likely meant that security forces wanted to prevent possible drone strikes on Red Square, where Vladimir Putin was receiving the parade. The previous large-scale mobile internet shutdown happened on May 5, on the day of one of the parade rehearsals on Red Square.
