The European Union has stopped granting temporary protection to Ukrainian citizens who do not have an exemption from military service

The corresponding decision of the EU Council was published on August 4 and entered into force the following day.

Applicants now submitting documents for new temporary protection or for an extension of existing protection will have to prove that they have "fulfilled their military obligations" in Ukraine. This also applies to those Ukrainian conscripts liable for military service who are requesting temporary protection in order to live together with their family.

For all other Ukrainian citizens, the right to temporary protection has been extended until March 4, 2028.
