Russian hackers are attacking Wi-Fi networks in hotels around the world

Microsoft reported that it had uncovered a large-scale hacking campaign targeting the infrastructure of public Wi-Fi networks in hotels, conference centers, and other public places around the world.

The hackers are targeting hotels and other public places that use special login pages to connect to Wi-Fi. Microsoft believes the attackers may have gained access to shared services used by several Wi-Fi network operators at once.

After connecting to such networks, users were redirected to other phishing resources where they were prompted to install malicious software, supposedly browser or operating system updates.

According to Microsoft, the attack is being carried out by hackers from Storm-2945, linked to the Midnight Blizzard group, which is associated with Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service.
