Since the start of the big war with Ukraine, Russian schools, universities, and kindergartens have spent 16 billion rubles on drones — Novaya Gazeta Europe

Since 2022, Russian educational institutions have purchased drones and kits for teaching how to assemble and operate them for a total of 16 billion rubles, journalists calculated.

Before the war, educational institutions across Russia spent about 350 million rubles a year on these purposes, Novaya Gazeta Europe notes.

Previously, drones were mainly bought by technology colleges and universities, but in recent years secondary schools have begun purchasing them more actively. Thus, the two largest contracts, totaling about 3.5 billion rubles, were signed by two Moscow state institutions that supply equipment for the city’s schools and colleges.

Even kindergartens are buying drones, Novaya Gazeta Europe writes, noting that it is not always clear exactly what purposes the drones are used for there.
