“We fooled Putin.” Arrested former aide to Furgal, Timofeyev on mafia clashes, cooperation with the FSB, and Kremlin revenge

At the end of January, Mikhail Timofeyev, a former aide to ex-governor of Khabarovsk Krai Sergey Furgal, was detained in Georgia. Russian authorities accuse him of organizing contract killings on Furgal’s orders, while federal media describe him as the leader of an organized crime group that included members of his sports club “Moses.”

Timofeyev denies these accusations and claims that for many years he and members of his sports club worked together with the FSB. According to him, he helped Furgal first win the gubernatorial election by deceiving Moscow, and then change the composition of the Legislative Duma of Khabarovsk Krai — something the Kremlin has not forgiven them for.
