In Latvia on May 9, four people were detained and 98 administrative cases were opened

This was reported by the Latvian State Police.

The police clarified that most of the cases were opened "for the use in public places, especially in the digital environment, of symbols glorifying military aggression and war crimes."

"This year, not a single criminal proceeding was initiated in connection with violations on May 9," the State Police noted, adding that fewer violations were recorded this year than last year.

🔵After Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Latvia's Saeima banned festive events from being held on May 9. The date was declared a Day of Remembrance for civilians and Ukrainian military personnel killed during the war. The end of World War II is marked in Latvia on May 8, not May 9.
