In Moscow, a Chinese RUDN postgraduate student was arrested in a spying case

The decision to arrest 42-year-old postgraduate student Chen Yong Ta was made by the Lefortovo court back in April, Mediazona found out.

Before that, Yong Ta was given 15 days of administrative arrest; the court issued that ruling on March 30. The pretext was a petty hooliganism case. According to the prosecution, the postgraduate student from China was using obscenities in a public place.

Immediately after the administrative arrest, Yong Ta was sent to a pre-trial detention center on a criminal case. The substance of the accusations is unknown. All such cases are classified.

Chen Yong Ta studied at the RUDN Department of Comparative Politics and focused on China’s foreign policy. In 2025, the postgraduate student took part in the Lomonosov conference with a presentation titled “China’s Role in the BRICS Mechanism.”
