During another mission to search for and evacuate remains on the front line, the head of the Ukrainian search group "Platsdarm," Oleksii Yukov, was killed.
Oleksii devoted his entire life to searching for the dead, first soldiers of the Second World War, and after 2014, Ukrainian and Russian servicemen. It was important to him to find and return home the bodies of all those killed in this war, regardless of which side they fought on.
“If the living are protected by laws, protected by other people, then the dead have no chance of protection. Everyone considers them simply dead, but in fact, if we look closely, this person had a life, he was awaited at home, he has a soul. We are collecting not just bodies, we are collecting the souls of these people. We are collecting them so that they can rest in peace. So that they may be buried properly,”
Oleksii said.
Thanks to the work of the search group "Platsdarm," a huge number of families both in Ukraine and in Russia were finally able to learn the fate of their loved one and bury them with dignity.
Earlier, the "I Want to Find" project published Oleksii Yukov's reports about how the search and evacuation of dead Russian Armed Forces servicemen takes place. In another report, volunteers from the group "Platsdarm" showed how they have to work in mud, under Russian artillery fire and drone attacks, searching for what remained of the bodies of dead Russian soldiers.
During one of these missions, the group's leader Oleksii Yukov was killed.
