In recent weeks, more and more Russians have been trying to understand how to protect themselves from mobilization. This is discussed in a report by journalists from “Novaya Gazeta Europe”.

The number of requests to just one project, “Go By the Forest”, has risen to 200 per day, while interest in mobilization, draft notices, exemptions, and leaving Russia has reached its highest point since the fall of 2022.

People are worried that the state is gradually preparing mechanisms for the mass dispatch of people to war.

This is indicated by several trends at once:

◾️The National Guard is being prepared to take part in mobilization. Relevant regulatory documents have already been developed for this.

◾️More and more Russians are receiving summonses to clarify their military registration data and mobilization orders. After the chaos of the fall of 2022, the authorities appear to be trying to eliminate organizational problems and bring the mobilization registration system into working order.

◾️Raids. Earlier, in Penza, Ulyanovsk, Rostov, Amur, and Yaroslavl regions, as well as in Udmurtia, Tatarstan, Kaluga, Voronezh, and Arkhangelsk, forced coercion of men into signing contracts has become more frequent. In Penza Region, local residents have even begun creating patrol groups to protect men whom the authorities are forcibly sending to war.

Women medics and pharmacists are being called to military enlistment offices. Calls from enlistment offices and electronic draft notices have already been recorded in Samara, Omsk, Moscow, Perm Krai, Karelia, and the Amur, Ivanovo, and Chelyabinsk regions.

◾️The State Duma has expanded the list of citizens with unexpunged or outstanding criminal records who can sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense. This is further evidence that the state continues to look for new sources of replenishing the army.

◾️Fear of losing the ability to leave Russia is also growing. In Armenia, a sharp rise in demand for housing from Russians is already being recorded, and interest in moving to Yerevan, according to Google Trends data, has reached the level seen during the 2022 mobilization.

◾️Search-query statistics also point to anxiety. According to the Yandex Wordstat service, in July Russians searched more than 32 thousand times for information using the query “exemption mobilization” and another 28 thousand times for “exemption from mobilization.” This is significantly higher than previous peaks in recent years.

This shows that more and more Russians are stopping believing the authorities’ statements and are preparing for the worst-case scenario.
