Moscow’s Zamoskvoretsky District Court today sentenced former Popcorn Books and Individuum publishing director Dmitry Protopopov to 4 years of imprisonment, suspended, with a five-year probation period, and also ordered the confiscation of 8 million 735 thousand rubles from him, which the investigation considered to have been obtained through criminal means.

In addition, the court barred Protopopov from engaging in editorial work and administering internet resources for 4 years.

Protopopov was charged with “involvement in the activities of an extremist organization” and “participation in the activities of an extremist organization” in connection with the sale of books that the investigation linked to the activities of the “international LGBT social movement,” banned in Russia.

According to the prosecution, in December 2023, after the “LGBT movement” was banned, they decided to sell the remaining “banned” books in order to draw children into the “movement.”
