Dozens of thousands of military and dual-use goods are listed on Wildberries, and their sales over the last three months alone amounted to hundreds of millions of rubles, Vyorstka found.
We obtained access to data from the marketplace’s internal seller system for the period from early May to early August. Vyorstka analyzed goods in the categories “Body Armor,” “Copters,” “Quadcopter Accessories,” “Weapon Accessories,” “Night Vision Devices,” and “Hunting Sights” — in total, at least 31,500 items are available in these categories.
For example, according to marketplace data, the “Body Armor” category contains at least 2,800 product listings, including the “BR2 Archistratig Body Armor” and the “RODNOY 2.0 Military Tactical Body Armor” — the average purchase over three months was 16,800 rubles.
As Vyorstka found, in all of these categories, product sales have been steadily falling after attacks on the marketplace’s infrastructure. The total revenue for the analyzed categories over three months was 1.646 billion rubles.
The sharpest drop in sales was in the “Quadcopter Accessories” category — over the two weeks from July 18 to 31, it saw 39% fewer orders and 36% fewer purchases. Over the last three months, goods worth 118 million rubles were sold in this category.
In the “Body Armor” category, over those same two weeks since the start of the Ukrainian attacks, the number of orders fell by 24%, and the number of purchases by 40%. Over the last three months, goods worth 472 million rubles were sold in it.
This is only a minimum estimate of the number of goods and the volume of their sales, since the marketplace also has other categories from which military-use goods cannot be separated out. For example, trench candles are sold in the “Outdoor and Garden Lighting” category, which is part of the “Garden Decor” section — besides trench candles, it also contains candles for mosquitoes and gnats and garden lights.
