At least 77 conscripts were killed during the AFU offensive in Russia’s Kursk region in 2024
In Russia’s Kursk region, during the AFU incursion in August 2024, there were at least 344 conscripts in the border area of the region, and 77 of them were killed, Vyorstka and Important Stories found.
The heaviest losses, with more than 15 killed and missing, were suffered by the conscripts stationed at strongpoints near Oleshnya. At least seven more were killed in the village of Vesyoloye in September.
The largest number of Kursk conscripts came from Komi (42 out of the 344 verified). More than 10 soldiers each were conscripted from Dagestan, Bashkortostan, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Altai Krai, Tyumen region, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Krasnoyarsk Krai.
More than 30 people remain missing, and their bodies are still being searched for. These people can likely be considered dead, but the search for their remains is still ongoing. In 2026, official Russian authorities continue to record the deaths of conscripts who went missing in 2024.
