Nearly three thousand flights were canceled or delayed in Moscow since the start of the week

Since May 4, around 1,000 departing flights and more than 1,200 arriving flights have been delayed at Moscow’s Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, and Domodedovo airports, Novaya-Europe calculated. Another 300 departing and 300 arriving flights were canceled.

⚪️ Record for cancellations. The highest number of flights was canceled yesterday at Vnukovo. There, 111 planes were unable to depart, and another 70 were unable to arrive. At the same time, there were almost no cancellations at the other capital airports.

⚪️ Record for delays. The leader in delays is Sheremetyevo Airport. Yesterday, 174 departures were postponed for one reason or another, and 229 planes arrived late.

⚪️ Today’s cancellations and delays. Today, more than 180 flights were canceled at the capital’s airports (85 at Sheremetyevo, 79 at Vnukovo, and 19 at Domodedovo). This is mainly linked to the closure of airports in southern Russia. At the same time, Rosaviatsia has now canceled its decision to suspend flights.

In addition, more than 460 flights at Moscow airports were rescheduled or delayed today. The highest number was at Sheremetyevo (213), followed by Vnukovo (178) and Domodedovo (74).

⚪️ What the restrictions are connected with. Flight cancellations and delays in Moscow are happening because of massive attacks by Ukrainian drones. Over the past two days alone, the capital’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that 103 AFU drones had been destroyed.

Flight restrictions in the southern regions were introduced this morning after AFU drones attacked the building of “Air Navigation of Southern Russia” in Rostov-on-Don. Rosaviatsia first issued a notice (NOTAM) suspending flights to cities in the south of the country until May 12, but later canceled it.
