Four years ago, more than 70,000 people lived here. It was one of the largest cities in Donetsk Oblast. Salt was mined here, champagne was produced here. Life was thriving here, with schools, roads, and sports complexes being built. Just look at how Bakhmut lived in 2020:

But in 2022, Russia came. Under the pretext of “protecting Russian speakers,” the Russian army completely destroyed Bakhmut. There was a city, and then it was gone. This is exactly what real genocide and its consequences look like. People no longer live here; there are no surviving buildings left here. Like hundreds of other towns and villages in Donbas, Bakhmut ceased to exist as a populated place.

Only a mentally unwell person could believe that this is “liberation,” that this is how Russia “helped” the residents of Donbas.

We call on all sane Russians who, willingly or unwillingly, ended up in the occupation army to surrender through the “I Want to Live” project, so as not to be on the side of killers and destroyers at this moment in history.
