🇷🇺➡️🇺🇦 Freedom of Russia Legion fighter Shamil Lukozhev told how the war completely changed his attitude toward Russia and Ukrainians.
According to Shamil, it was only after switching to Ukraine’s side that he saw the difference between the societies not on television, but in real life: the attitude toward the individual, toward freedom, toward one’s own country, and toward other people’s lives.
For years, Russian propaganda has been drumming into its citizens that Ukrainians are the “enemy,” and that Russia is supposedly bringing “liberation.” But the reality that Russians themselves encounter in the war destroys these myths.
Shamil admits that in Ukraine he saw people defending their home and their freedom, while in the Russian army he saw fear, lies, and complete indifference toward its own soldiers.
Shamil now serves in the Freedom of Russia Legion, where former Russian Armed Forces servicemen also fight, men who used the “I Want to Live” project not to surrender, but to join the Legion.
“They prove themselves very well; often these are people deceived by the system, thrown into the meat grinder of war, who witnessed commanders’ crimes against civilians and against their own subordinates, and decided to fight on the side of good. People do this to feel like a person of honor, not a creature in a butcher’s hands,”
Shamil said about Freedom of Russia Legion fighters who came to the unit from the Russian Armed Forces.
We remind you that the “I Want to Live” project helps Russian servicemen preserve their lives and surrender safely. Contacts with the project are confidential, and every surrendering soldier decides for himself whether he wants to remain in captivity until the end of the war or return to Russia in a prisoner exchange.
Russians who want to actively oppose Putin’s regime can also contact the project’s chat bot and get help crossing the front line.
