ISW recorded a surge in AI videos on Z channels ahead of May 9 featuring fake flag-plantings and "Ukrainian fighters" switching to the side of the Russian Armed Forces.

If just a year ago Russian soldiers had to make their way on their own, at great risk to their lives, to positions they did not control in order to plant flags, now AI capabilities make it possible to draw in their "presence" on drone videos, and sometimes the editing is so realistic that the videos are hard to distinguish from real ones.

And sometimes the Z channels, realizing what fucking trash they generated, add a note themselves that it is AI, as in screenshot 2 and video 3.

ISW had previously documented Russian AI videos with flag-plantings to confirm "control" over one position or another, but before May 9 they churned out especially many of them.

This is probably aimed not only at the domestic audience, but also at showing "victories" and a "front collapse" to the military-political leadership, despite all the available evidence. Maybe they even show it to Putin, who the hell knows, you can see how confident he is about a quick victory.
