In Voronezh Region, two participants in the war in Ukraine were arrested for organizing kidnappings. One of them lost his legs because of a wound

Regional investigators reported the detention of seven people in a case involving kidnapping and extortion in Voronezh Region in late February. At the request of the investigation, all the defendants were placed in custody.

According to court documents reviewed by Kommersant, servicemen Daniil Astakhov and Vitaly Borisov were among the defendants in the case. The materials on their arrest were considered by the Voronezh garrison military court.

Investigators believe the kidnappers operated in 2025 in Rossosh. The accused, using violence, first abducted a 17-year-old teenager and then a woman. For this, they received some property, while a local resident received 100,000 rubles. After that, the victims were released.

The lawyers for the participants in the war in Ukraine asked for their pretrial restrictions to be eased and for them to be released from custody. Astakhov’s lawyer, in an appeal against the arrest, stated that her client had admitted guilt, had positive references from his current workplace at the military enlistment office, and has a first-degree disability: because of a wound sustained in the war in Ukraine, both of his legs were amputated. Borisov’s lawyer also asked for the active serviceman to be released, saying the accused did not intend to obstruct the investigation or put pressure on witnesses.

The court rejected the arguments of both lawyers.
