Pro-government political analyst Sergei Markov said his “foreign agent” labels were stolen by “malefactors”

Moscow’s Tagansky District Court fined pro-government political analyst Sergei Markov 45,000 rubles under a protocol for failing to fulfill the duties of a “foreign agent.” This was reported by Mediazona.

Markov was accused of publishing two posts in January, about China’s and Russia’s positions on Iran and Venezuela, without “foreign agent” labels.

The political analyst himself told the court that “the probability that I would post material without a label and that it would remain there for several days is practically zero,” and that when he learned about the protocol, he supposedly realized that “the foreign agent label had been stolen by malefactors.”

Markov also said that these posts differed from his usual ones: text had supposedly appeared there that he “could not have written and did not write.” The political analyst believes his channel was hacked by SBU employees or Canadian intelligence services.

At the lawyer’s request, a specialist’s report was added to the case, “confirming that Markov’s Telegram channel had indeed been hacked.”
