After Khristolyub Vegan’s death in a penal colony, a negligence case was opened. The preacher was found hanged in a punishment cell

On April 20, Khristolyub’s father was summoned for questioning. The investigator told him that the preacher had been found hanged in a SHIZO cell. He had been sent there in early April.

A negligence case was opened in connection with his death. SOTAvision writes that the cameras in the SHIZO premises may not have been working.

His father does not believe the suicide version and noted that his son had been ready to start a hunger strike if pressure was put on him.

Before that, Khristolyub had already spent several days on hunger strike after being sent to the SHIZO. He ended it after being transferred to the general unit.

“He had strained relations with the administration of IK-2, and, according to his father, there were also some minor misunderstandings in the cell with several cellmates. So for now it is hard to say what caused his death,” said a person from Khristolyub’s circle.

A farewell ceremony for the man is supposed to take place today.

The Case of Khristolyub Vegan

In February 2025, the preacher was sentenced to three years in a settlement colony on charges of offending believers’ feelings and rehabilitating Nazism.

The first charge is connected to a video with crude statements about Islam on the preacher’s YouTube channel. The article on rehabilitating Nazism was imputed over statements about recruiting prisoners to send them to the war in Ukraine, about the glorification of Soviet soldiers, and about their crimes against civilians.

Khristolyub also posted videos in which he criticized the Russian authorities and the invasion of Ukraine. In his final statement, the preacher noted that for three years he had “used all his resources, strength, funds, and capabilities to stop the Rashist-Ukrainian war.”
