Ukraine prepares for a possible attack from the north — Der Spiegel

As Der Spiegel writes, in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, located near the border with Belarus, Ukrainian troops are setting up defensive positions in preparation for a possible new Russian attack from the north.

In the exclusion zone, the AFU have set up checkpoints every few kilometers, and trenches and fortified communication trenches have appeared near the roads.

In some areas, Ukrainian troops are installing tall metal supports above the roads and stretching anti-drone nets between them.

From some parts of the zone, the Belarusian border is about 15 kilometers away. Although Belarus has not directly entered the war, Kyiv is taking into account the possibility of a threat emerging from that direction.

There is also a military presence in Pripyat. There, a Der Spiegel correspondent saw soldiers cutting down trees near one of the abandoned apartment buildings. Presumably, the military are creating a line of sight toward the river or widening the road for heavy equipment.
