Russia Conducted a Test of the Sarmat Missile. The Previous One, Researchers Believe, Ended in Failure

Sergei Karakayev, commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, reported to Vladimir Putin that the test was successful. According to him, "the launch mission was carried out, and the correctness of the design solutions was confirmed."

Putin said that the Sarmat would be placed on combat duty at the end of 2026.

The previous test of the Sarmat missile took place in September 2024 at the Plesetsk military cosmodrome. Researchers who studied satellite images and other data suggested that it was unsuccessful; apparently, the missile exploded right in the launch silo.
