Orenburg lawyer convicted in a military “fake news” case spent more than two weeks in a punishment cell

58-year-old Sergey Salazkin, who is serving his sentence in settlement colony No. 12 in Orenburg Region, was held in a punishment cell from April 20 to May 6. His lawyer told us this.

🟧 Salazkin received four penalties from the administration.

🟧 First, he was given three days because he was absent from the sewing workshop, when he had gone to the toilet. Then he got another seven days because while in the punishment cell he took the internal regulations out of a file. He received the last two penalties because the cell was not cleaned and for dust.

🟧 The administration is now seeking a tightening of Salazkin’s confinement regime and his transfer to a general-regime colony.

🟧 The lawyer has been in this colony since August 2025. There, his letters were delayed or not passed on to him at all. According to an acquaintance, staff told Salazkin that no letters were arriving for him, adding: “Everyone forgot about you a long time ago, and you keep going on about letters and letters.”

Last spring, the lawyer was sentenced to a year and a half in a settlement colony in a military “fake news” case. He was convicted over posts on Odnoklassniki about missile strikes on Kramatorsk and Chernihiv.

Salazkin had been in private legal practice for more than 30 years. On social media, he often wrote about the cases of political prisoners. In addition, before his arrest he cared for 24 cats. After the verdict was announced, he had to place them in temporary care for the duration of his imprisonment.
