Mathematician Azat Miftakhov was tortured in prison colony, and now they are offering to “hush it up.” Help demand an investigation!
Mathematician and anarchist Azat Miftakhov has been behind bars since 2019. In early May, Azat reported torture in IK-18 in Kharp.
Miftakhov said he was tied up with tape, beaten with a wooden mallet, subjected to electric shock, and threatened with rape. Not only staff took part in the torture, but other prisoners as well.
“The pain was so terrible that I started screaming at the top of my lungs,” Azat recounted.
He also named the people involved in the torture.
🟠 What is happening now
After media coverage and a visit from his lawyer, Azat stopped being tortured. What is more, according to Azat’s support group, colony staff offered to “hush up” this story.
But that must not be done, the mathematician’s loved ones insist. It is especially important now not to let this case disappear into silence, and to secure an investigation into the torture.
🟠 How you can help
Sign an appeal to the Investigative Committee demanding an investigation into Azat Miftakhov’s torture and that those responsible be held accountable.
