The US government sold two sanctioned tankers for scrap

The vessels are the Era, which previously sailed under the names Marinera and Bella 1, and the Lileo, previously known as Galileo and Veronica.

The ships were bought by Dubai-based ship recycling company Global Marketing Systems (GMS). The value of the deal was not disclosed.

The US seized the tanker Bella 1 on January 7 in the North Atlantic Ocean. During the process, the ship, which had originally sailed under the Panamanian flag, switched to the Russian flag and was renamed Marinera. US authorities said the tanker was used to transport sanctioned oil from Venezuela and Iran.
