The Peruvian government has for the first time officially published data on the losses of its citizens recruited into the Russian army to participate in the war against Ukraine.

According to Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, out of 459 Peruvians who signed a contract with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, 11 were killed, 114 are listed as missing, and another three were taken prisoner.

Thus, at least 128 citizens of Peru, nearly 28% of the total number recruited, have already been killed, gone missing, or are in captivity.

Particular attention is drawn to the number of missing persons. There are more than ten times as many of them as officially confirmed dead. This is common for the Russian Armed Forces, especially with foreigners, whose search, evacuation, and return of bodies to their homeland nobody deals with in principle.

Peru’s Foreign Ministry emphasized that the published data received official confirmation. At the same time, relatives of the recruited Peruvians claim that the number of dead may be significantly higher. It should also be understood here that the losses are constantly growing, and the Peruvian government is clearly not keeping up with counting them. For example, there are already more Peruvians in captivity than there were on the publication date.

The Peruvian authorities also warned citizens about the danger of recruitment schemes operating under the guise of offers of highly paid work in Russia. According to the Foreign Ministry, some Peruvian citizens stated that after arriving in Russia they were forced to sign contracts and take part in the war against Ukraine.

We have been writing about this for the second year already. Based on the named data available to us alone, we know of more than 28 thousand foreign citizens recruited by Russia. For all of them, there is only one role: assault meat that is bought and brought in from abroad, because their deaths carry no negative consequences for Russian society.
