Latvia plans to completely ban buses to Russia and Belarus
The ban on irregular bus transportation has already been in effect since November 1, 2025, and now, Delfi writes, Latvia’s Ministry of Transport has drafted amendments banning regular routes as well, including those traveling in transit through the country’s territory.
“The existence of regular routes to Russia and Belarus, alongside other travel options, increases the risk for Latvian citizens of encountering situations of influence and recruitment,” the Ministry of Transport emphasized.
Carrier Ecolines estimates direct losses in the event of a ban on routes to Russia and Belarus at about four million euros a year, and additional losses due to bus fleet downtime at about another two million euros a year, according to the accompanying documentation for the draft resolution.
