Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov resigned. He was replaced by an “SVO veteran” who may be linked to the execution of captured Ukrainian soldiers
Vladimir Putin dismissed Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov and appointed war participant Alexander Shuvayev in his place.
As “Interfax” reports, Gladkov left the post of governor “of his own accord.” Shuvayev was appointed acting head of the region.
As “Verstka” previously wrote, Shuvayev commanded the 1st Motorized Rifle (Slavyansk) Brigade of the “DPR,” whose fighters are accused of executing Ukrainian servicemen who had surrendered.
On February 15, 2024, the brigade’s Telegram channel published a video about the capture of the Zenit stronghold south of Avdiivka. Four days later, the 110th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said that during the fighting for that position, continuous shelling had made it impossible to evacuate several seriously wounded and dead servicemen.
At the request of the Ukrainian side, Russian forces agreed to evacuate the wounded Ukrainians and provide them assistance for a subsequent exchange, but then, the 110th Brigade notes, in “the video released by the enemy from the captured Zenit position,” relatives identified three dead soldiers (though the source of the video was not specified).
Also, according to the 110th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, at least two Ukrainian servicemen were executed. As a result, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) launched a pre-trial investigation.
