State Duma deputy Yana Lantratova has become Russia’s human rights ombudsman

At a plenary session, State Duma deputies elected by majority vote Yana Lantratova (“A Just Russia”), head of the Duma committee on the development of civil society and issues involving public and religious associations, to the post of human rights commissioner under Putin, RBC writes.

🔵Yana Lantratova, a native of St. Petersburg, began her political career in the Young Guard of United Russia, worked as an aide to Vitaly Milonov (then a deputy of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly), and was involved in monitoring violations of children’s rights and “hunting pedophiles.” Later she worked in the Presidential Administration and was elected to the State Duma in 2021.

🔵She actively promotes a conservative agenda: she opposes juvenile justice and “LGBT propaganda,” supports censorship in the media and “traditional values.” She supports the war in Ukraine and is under sanctions from the EU, the US, the UK, Canada, and Ukraine.

🔵In December 2022, Lantratova asked the prosecutor’s office and Roskomnadzor to check bloggers Khilmi Forks and Dasha Koreika for LGBT and “transgender” “propaganda,” as well as for “broadcasting immoral behavior and offending the feelings of believers.” Forks was ultimately sentenced to three years in a general-regime penal colony.

🔵In 2024, Lantratova reported to the State Duma on the removal of Vladimir Makanin’s novella “Prisoner of the Caucasus” from the literature curriculum.

🔵In March 2024, the Security Service of Ukraine charged Lantratova in absentia with the “forcible individual deportation of protected persons from occupied territory to the territory of the occupying state, committed by a group of persons acting in prior collusion,” as well as with “violating the laws and customs of war.” This happened after the de-occupation of Kherson, where investigators searched the children’s home and discovered documents concerning the transfer of children to Russia bearing the signatures of Lantratova and Inna Varlamova, the wife of A Just Russia party leader Sergey Mironov.
