Novosibirsk’s Central District Court placed activist and human rights defender Larisa Mikhailova under arrest for two months.
Earlier, security forces searched her apartment. Mikhailova’s daughter said that her mother was accused of publicly calling for terrorist activity on the internet.
According to the daughter, a lawyer told her that the charges against Mikhailova are supposedly connected to a mention of the communist anthem “The Internationale.” She was unable to explain what exactly constituted the alleged crime.
Mikhailova’s daughter believes the detention of the human rights defender is “payback” for her active civic stance. At the beginning of this year, the activist covered the mass slaughter of livestock in Novosibirsk Region and also helped local farmers defend their rights.
