Russian schools have begun holding lessons on the dangers of VPNs — Verstka

The outlet Verstka studied posts on schools’ VK pages and found that in some regions, lessons about the dangers of VPNs have begun being held for children.

At one school in Irkutsk region, a “Legal Landing Force” was held “as part of a month of anti-drug activities and financial security events.” Students, among other things, were given “lectures on preventing the use of games and virtual VPN networks.”

The classes were titled “VPN Outside the Law. What You Can and Cannot Now Do Online,” “Using a VPN Is an Aggravating Circumstance When Committing Crimes,” and “Why Gamers Need to Choose VPN Providers with Caution.”

At another school in the region, a class titled “Ban on the Use of VPN Services: What You Need to Know?” was held. Lessons on “personal data, digital footprint, online anonymity, and the risks of using VPNs” were also held at one school in Rostov region.

A number of schools in Arkhangelsk and Vladimir regions published posts on social media about the “harm” of VPNs.
