International Wrestling Federation fully lifts sanctions on athletes from Russia

UWW has fully restored Russia and Belarus to their rights: it has allowed representatives of those countries to take part in its international competitions without any restrictions in all age categories.

Representatives of Russia were suspended from competitions from March 2022 to April 2023, and after that competed in a "neutral" status. In September 2024, UWW eased the eligibility criteria for Russians and Belarusians to compete in events under its auspices, and already in January 2026 the organization approved the participation of all wrestlers from the two countries in the U23 age group under their national flags following an IOC recommendation.

Now UWW has fully restored representatives of Russia and Belarus to their rights. In particular, the organization has allowed wrestlers from those countries to compete under their own flag and anthem, and has also lifted restrictions on team participation in international competitions.

Besides wrestling, athletes from Russia and Belarus have been allowed to compete under their own flag in all age categories in sambo, judo, and taekwondo.
