Live in Moscow and subject to the draft? And now these mobilization rumors too... Here’s advice from Conscience Call on what you need to prepare for

Moscow’s draft system is quite specific. The city regularly carries out raids on conscripts (yes, they have become less frequent now, but it is still too early to say they are over). Instead of regular draft offices, Moscow uses the Unified Draft Center. That is why our partners at Conscience Call have separate recommendations for potential conscripts and reservists from Moscow.

Here is the most important thing.

✹ Decide on a defense strategy in advance (deferment, exemption, alternative civilian service);

✹ issue a power of attorney to a close person and specify there that they may represent your interests at the Unified Draft Center;

✹ buy a basic push-button phone;

✹ carry a certified copy of your passport with you, and keep the original at home;

✹ carry a “safety folder” with you, which should contain: copies of your applications marked as received, complaints filed in court, motions, and complaints in case you have to challenge a forced conscription.
