Roskomnadzor in 2025 demanded a record number of links be removed from Google search

In 2025, Roskomnadzor sent Google 492 requests demanding that more than 3 million 835 thousand unique addresses be removed from the search engine’s results. This is stated in Google’s transparency report, which was analyzed by Verstka.

This figure turned out to be the highest since 2018, when Federal Law No. 276-FZ came into force, under which RKN demands that links be removed from search results. Compared with 2024, when Roskomnadzor wanted to hide 2.15 million addresses from search, it increased by almost 1.8 times.

At the same time, the number of links that Google ultimately removed grew even more sharply, by more than two times. If in 2024 the company complied with demands covering 1 million 8 thousand unique URLs, then in 2025 it was already almost 2 million 76 thousand.

Another 1 million 443 thousand links listed by Roskomnadzor were not indexed by Google Search at the time the requests were received, and the company has not yet made a decision on 300 thousand URLs.

In addition, in 2025 the Russian authorities demanded that Google remove more than 732.7 thousand pieces of content posted directly on the company’s services. That is 50 thousand fewer than in the record-breaking year of 2024. Most of that content, 723 thousand items, concerns web search itself; another 7 thousand concern YouTube; the remainder concerns other platforms.
