Putin praised the government for GDP growth in one month — and said nothing about declines in two more

Vladimir Putin praised the Russian government at a meeting on economic issues for GDP growth in March 2026. In the public portion of the meeting, Putin noted that the measures the government had taken recently had begun to produce, “let’s say restrainedly, but still a certain positive result.”

At the same time, The Bell notes, Putin said nothing in the public portion of the meeting about the disastrous start to the year — GDP falling by 1.1% in February and by 1.8% in January. He also did not mention that the Ministry of Economic Development had updated its GDP growth forecast for 2026, cutting it by a factor of three, from 1.3% to 0.4%.

One Good Month Replaces The Year

March GDP rose; January and February were left unsaid.
