General Lapin, who failed the defense of Kursk Oblast, is likely to head the State Duma Defense Committee
The candidacy of Colonel General Alexander Lapin is being considered for the post of chairman of the Defense Committee in the new convocation of the State Duma, Kommersant writes, citing sources.
According to Kommersant’s interlocutors, Lapin will run in the September elections for the State Duma on the United Russia party list from Tatarstan. The decision that he will head the Defense Committee is not final yet.
The Defense Committee is currently headed by Andrey Kartapolov, who was elected to the State Duma in 2021 from Moscow. Kommersant’s interlocutors say that he will likely not seek reelection to the new convocation of the State Duma.
The Wall Street Journal called Alexander Lapin responsible for breaches in Russia’s defenses during the AFU attack on Kursk Oblast.

Failure Opens a Career Path
Lapin may head the Duma defense committee after the Kursk defense failure.
Failure remains a solid defense qualification.
