Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is considering the option of dismissing Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Financial Times reports, citing a source in the Ukrainian administration.

According to the source, this weekend Zelensky is gathering military commanders to hear their assessments of the situation at the front and to hold meetings with potential candidates for the post of army commander.

The source noted that Zelensky is ready to remove Syrskyi from his position if he finds a commander who will ensure a “smooth transition” in control of the troops without disrupting Ukraine’s defense on the front line.

The president of Ukraine began thinking about dismissing Syrskyi after mass protests in Ukrainian cities caused by the removal of Mykhailo Fedorov from the post of defense minister, the Financial Times writes.
