According to him, “theoretically” he can still collect signatures in support of his nomination for another 10 days, until the court’s decision on a fine under the article on displaying “extremist symbols” comes into force.

“But in practice, when I was detained, my headquarters deleted the chat with signature collectors and headquarters managers for security reasons, and afterward people have not really come back, because they are simply afraid. Well, if the candidate they worked for was arrested, then people have well-founded doubts that this is a safe thing to do. So in the near future I will probably make a decision to suspend the election campaign. Because it is becoming dangerous for those who are taking part in it. Alas, that is the reality,” the politician said on The Breakfast Show.

In mid-June 2026, Nadezhdin submitted documents to the Central Election Commission to take part in the State Duma elections as an independent candidate, after which he began collecting signatures in support of himself.

On July 10, the Russian Justice Ministry declared Boris Nadezhdin a “foreign agent.” Three days later he was detained. A protocol was drawn up against the politician under the article on displaying “extremist symbols” because of a photograph of Alexei Navalny. Soon he was given a fine of 1,000 rubles. In addition, the politician was banned from leaving Russia for abroad.
