In Moscow, an activist who was reading Yesenin outside the Presidential Administration building was fined for “profanity”

Alexander Anisimov was detained after he began reading the poem “To Kachalov’s Dog.”

“I wanted to express my opinion about amendments to the law that allow cruelty to animals I decided simply, as a sign of my solidarity with the people who had come, to somehow support them and read a poem by Yesenin. And then I was detained. They told me: ‘Citizen, come with us. What are you doing here? Why are you shouting here?’ Although I wasn’t shouting, I was reading. They just took me to the police vehicle, and that was it,” he said.

A protocol was drawn up against Anisimov under the article on petty hooliganism for swearing in a public place, and he was fined 500 rubles.

Animal rights advocates are demanding the disbandment in the State Duma of Nina Ostanina’s working group, which initiated the law on euthanizing stray animals.
