Head of Moscow’s Azerbaijani Diaspora Bakhtiyar Gasanov Deported from Russia

Bakhtiyar Gasanov, chairman of the National-Cultural Autonomy of Azerbaijanis of Moscow, was deported from Russia, the Russian bureau of the Azerbaijani agency APA reports.

Gasanov was taken from a temporary migrant detention center to the airport, after which he was expelled from the country. In June, he was detained and placed in the temporary detention center.

As Kavkazsky Uzel wrote, in September 2025 Gasanov was stripped of his Russian citizenship, which he had received in the 2000s. Gasanov himself denied this at the time, but the passport validity check service on Gosuslugi identified all passports in his name as invalid.

Gasanov had headed the National-Cultural Autonomy of Azerbaijanis of Moscow since July 2022. According to Kavkazsky Uzel, he was also a member of the Council on Interethnic Issues under the Moscow government and the public council under the Moscow police headquarters.
