Lithuanian MEP said she is ready, in the event of Russian aggression, to defend itself “like Ukraine”
Rasa Jukneviciene said this on Dozhd’s broadcast. She called the Russian army’s three-day drills on the preparation and use of nuclear forces under conditions of a threat of aggression “another round of intimidation,” and also called the Russian reaction to Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys’s words that NATO has the means to destroy Russian bases in Kaliningrad “manipulation.”
“He did not say that the time has come to attack the Kaliningrad region right now. He is talking about making sure Russia knows that the Kaliningrad region must not become such a fortress that will remain the same if Russia attacks us. And what is happening now in Belarus is precisely connected to this. We have measures, we have enough means, I mean NATO and the European Union, so that we can defend ourselves. And one of the parts or elements of defense is also the presumed, how should I put it, of course, while defending ourselves, we will not only defend ourselves, but also attack if Russia strikes first. The way Ukraine is doing now,” she said.
According to her, what “is happening now in Moscow, the drones flying there, in Pskov or in other places — Perm, Ryazan, and other places — is precisely Putin’s fault, because Ukraine is defending itself.”
“It is only in this context that our foreign minister’s words should be understood: that we will not sit idly by if there are any attacks on us. We have the means, and we will defend ourselves. And Kaliningrad, of course, will be one of the targets of our defense,” Jukneviciene concluded.
